Portraiture
Whether it is for business profile or editorial, commercial or family portraiture is, at its heart, the process of capturing the essence of a person or group of people in a single image. There are many factors involved in this process and each occasion calls for a different set of skills. With an extensive knowledge of lighting and a friendly demeanor Nic is able to capture images suitable for any environment.
Place
Nic has always had an interest in the Landscape , both manufactured and natural. He made a foray into Architecture as a young man but it was not to be. Life behind the lens provides a way to come full circle and engage with the landscape from a different perspective. Conversely to the practice of portraiture capturing landscape and architecture is far more meditative in nature. It is about the allowing a place speak for itself, letting the textures of different building materials play off each other or finding the perfect time of day to allow the light to set the mood.
Peculiarity
Visual problem solving; That is, the process of creating an image from inception to output, transcends style and genre. One of the things about being a photographer in New Zealand is that you do have to be able to handle a wide range of subjects. That is the thing that keeps Nic engaged with image capture. The challenges of visual problem solving are what keeps life interesting. If you have a project that needs a considered eye or would like to collaborate Nic would love to hear from you.
